Setting URL Parameters in Google Ads

You’re likely familiar with URL parameters – those tags added after a question mark ‘?’ at the end of a URL. These tags are instrumental in tracking traffic across monitoring tools like Google Analytics.

In Google Ads, there are two levels at which to set these parameters: campaign level and account level.

Campaign level: Here, we add URL parameters, such as ‘utm_campaign’, to identify which campaign performs better. To do this, look for the ‘Campaign URL options’ in the campaign’s settings. Then, set what you want to add to your URL in the ‘Final Suffix’ section.

Account level: This helps ensure coverage if a campaign URL parameter is accidentally forgotten. For example, if you see something like ‘utm_campaign=NA’ in your reports, you realize that a campaign requires attention to set its URL parameters.

Remember, the account level suffix comes into play only if the campaign level’s option is not filled.

I hope you found this post helpful for understanding how to use these two options to monitor your incoming traffic from Google Ads.
